1965 - 1966 Mustangs carried identical sheet metal and proportions. In 1967 Ford faced incensing competition from the Camaro, Firebird and Barracuda. They restyled the car and gave it a new look. The car incorporated safety features to comply with government standards. The engine area was widened to allow for big block engines. They retained the styling for the 1968 model lineup.
